How the numbers are calculated
Words are groups of characters separated by spaces or line breaks. Sentences end with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. Paragraphs are blocks of text separated by line breaks. Reading time assumes about 200 words per minute and speaking time about 130 words per minute.
