Free Online Typing Speed Test
Our Typing Speed Test is a highly accurate, free online utility designed to calculate your Words Per Minute (WPM) and typing accuracy. Whether you are a professional preparing for a data entry job, a student wanting to finish essays faster, or a gamer testing your reflexes, understanding your baseline typing speed is the first step toward improving it.
How is WPM Calculated?
Words Per Minute (WPM) is a standard metric used to measure keyboard typing speed. Because English words vary greatly in length, typing software uses a standardized formula: One "word" is exactly 5 characters long (including spaces). Our algorithm tracks exactly how many correct characters you type, divides it by 5, and then calculates the speed against your 60-second timer to give you a highly precise WPM score.
How to Take the Typing Challenge
- Step 1: Click inside the text input box labeled "Start typing here...".
- Step 2: As soon as you press your first key, the 60-second timer will automatically begin.
- Step 3: Type the highlighted paragraph exactly as it appears. Correct letters will turn green, while mistakes will turn red.
- Step 4: Once the timer hits zero, the test will end and your final score will be presented on the screen.
